All too often we have been conditioned to put others and their needs ahead of our own — from work, to community responsibilities, as well as friends and family. In this fun, informative hands-on workshop, you will be pampered and experience a veritable toolbox of artistic, practical and relaxing practices for a healthy, balanced and creative life. You’ll be introduced to a variety of books, ideas and tools such as The Artist’s Way, relaxation techniques from Movement for Makers, and things like nurturing teas, essential oils, yummy nourishing snacks, musical playlists and much more. Try your hand at a Japanese stitching technique called Sashiko and make a small Healing Meditation cloth to hang on your wall to remind you to B-R-E-A-T-H-E. You’ll learn the meditative form of drawing called Zentangle, and you’ll be able to make a tiny peace flag for your garden. This is NOT a lecture; you’ll be participating in a patchwork sampler of hands-on self-care practices to stop destructive patterns in their tracks before our bodies get the chance to rebel! This course is designed to help artists begin to use color more effectively in their portraits. The venerable trois crayons technique, using sanguine, black and white chalks (and pencils) was favored by masters as a way to create preparatory studies for portrait painting, but are beautiful in their own right. If you’re not satisfied with adult coloring books, and want to really explore colored pencils as a fine art medium, learn colored pencils with a recovering production artist. We’ll begin with basic layering techniques and soon you’ll be painting with colored pencils instead of just coloring. It’s an easy and powerful way to gain understanding of color theory and color mixing. Whether you’re completely new to colored pencils or looking to learn more about this versatile medium, this class is for you! Are you comfortable with your clay abilities and just looking for a place to work and improve your skills? Join us in the Morse High School Ceramics Studio and start making all those things you have been dreaming up! This is not an instructor lead class, but the instructor will be on site working in case you need something. $75 for materials and studio fee, payable to instructor, must be paid on the first night of class. *Purchasing additional clay: The fee is an additional $75 to cover the firing, glazes and other consumables used during class. Please note: If you miss a class, you cannot make-up the class at another time. The ceramics schedule is very tight and these classes are usually full.
