Illustrating A Rainbow of Botanicals with Watercolor and Ink

This all-levels class integrates pen and ink techniques with watercolor. Students will learn principles of illustration different kinds of botanicals, and create a composition combining a rainbow array of the subjects of their choosing. At the end of the day, students will have gained techniques for painting and drawing in their own unique style. Students can either buy themselves the required materials - the materials list is linked here - or they can buy material kits from the Mix, an art store in Brunswick (here is a link to a student-grade kit, and here is a link to an artist-grade kit). *THIS IS A ONE DAY WORKSHOP.

Introduction to Ultimate Beginner Watercolor

Get started with the basics of watercolor painting. In this workshop we will start with an intro to paper, paint, palettes, and brushes. Then we'll jump right in and get painting; you’ll mix paint to complete a color mixing chart and start to learn the basics of color theory. Time permitting you'll paint a custom illustration created by Catherine and printed on watercolor paper. You'll leave this fun class with enough experience to continue your watercolor journey. *There is a $10 materials fee payable to the instructor on the day of the workshop.

Introduction to Upholstery: Ottoman Edition

Ottoman Edition! This hands-on workshop introduces students to some of the foundational skills of upholstery. Over the course of three classes, students will learn to transform a plain, wooden frame into a beautiful, custom ottoman. Through guided instruction, students will become familiar with a variety of upholstery tools and techniques. Students will also learn how to measure and cut cushioning materials, and properly assemble a finished ottoman. If you're looking to gain a new skill, this course provides a brief introduction to the art of upholstery. Course Highlights: + Learn how to transform a plain, wooden frame into usable furniture. + Hands-on practice with a variety of upholstery tools: pneumatic staple gun, rubber and wooden mallets, staple remover, pliers, and more. + Guidance on fabric selection, estimating, and manipulation. + Basic padding, assembly, and finishing. + Safety procedures and proper tool usage. Materials: Students will need to provide their own fabric. All other materials, including the ottoman frame, will be provided. Recommendations on where to purchase fabric can be found on my website: khgupholstery.com. Feel free to reach out should you prefer to discuss fabric options prior to purchasing. *Upholstery weight fabrics preferred.* All tools will be provided for use during the class. What to Bring: 2 yards of fabric *Be sure to have your fabric on hand for the first class* For additional comfort, feel free to bring a pair of gloves, safety glasses, and/or mask to wear while upholstering.

From 4:30 to 8:00pm, we will dive into the art of glazing, showing you how to build luminous layers that shimmer with depth and richness. You will explore negative painting techniques that carve light out of color, turning simple shapes into striking compositions.

We will also play with color theory in hands on exercises designed to loosen you up and spark bold, confident choices. Think vibrant mixes, unexpected harmonies, and a few happy surprises along the way.

Illustrating the Maine Coast with Watercolor and Ink

Illustrate Maine’s beautiful coastline with pen and ink and watercolor. This all-levels class begins with studio time to learn techniques, then heads outside to the Maine coast to capture the landscape. The process will be broken down into simple steps, and everyone will leave with their own unique study of the coastline. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be held inside. Students must plan to drive themselves to the second location. Students can purchase materials to use during the class for $23, or buy themselves the required materials - the materials list is linked here. Learn To Oil Paint In A Day!

Always wanted to try out oil painting? Well, this is your chance! Come join artist/instructor Kat Logan in this full day intensive to oil painting. And all of your materials will be laid out ready for you to use. You will just need an apron and a packed lunch. We will go through the materials, how to use them all and work first on a monochromatic still life and then get introduced to color work in the afternoon. No experience is necessary! A $35 materials fee, payable to the instructor, must be paid at the beginning of class.
