Your instructor, Mary Laury is an accomplished watercolorist and highly esteemed teacher. She encourages all her students to believe they can be successful. Painting is an exciting medium; it flows and moves and does beautiful things. If you have never painted in watercolors, we will start at the beginning. If you have painted before, you will pick up some new tips and tricks as well. We all learn together! Please note: There is a $60 cancellation fee for this program.

Introduction to Wood Carving: Chopsticks

Gain a comprehensive overview of woodcarving knives and learn how to use them. Practice using metal and stone knives to carve some basic eating implements from wood: fine chopsticks and/or a jam spreader. Next, try to make a spinning top! We’ll cover safety, techniques, good form, and various basic carving projects. *Program includes all required tools and materials.

Glass on Glass Landscape Mosaics

Please bring a photo of a natural landscape special to you to class. We will use the photos to create 8x12” mosaics by simplifying the landscape and highlighting its most prominent features. Although this is a great beginner class, all experience levels are welcome. We will learn how to score, break, and snip glass down to shape and glue to our substrate. On the last day of class we will finish with grout. No experience required! All Materials/Tools provided. A material fee of $35 must be paid to the instructor on the first night of class.

Sketching in the Wild

The plein air sketching class this summer is not media dependent. Working in your field journal or sketchbook, you may use pencil, ink, watercolor, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, or all of the above. We will meet at various scenic locations and parks in and around the Midcoast. The instructor will send the group an email with the meet up location prior to each class. In case of bad weather, we will meet at an indoor location. There is no set materials list. If you have any questions, contact the instructor directly at ed_higgins@icloud.com.

State Park Sketchbook: Wolfe’s Neck State Park

Pack a lunch, bring your sunblock and bugspray, and spend a day communing with nature and fellow artists. All experience levels encouraged. Guidance and feedback are provided as needed.
