Beginning Ceramics

Ever wanted to take some time for yourself and play with clay? Learn the basics of hand building and wheel throwing in this 6 week class. This class is geared toward the beginner. The first 10 people to sign up have priority on the wheel. Please let admins know if you prefer to hand build or wheel throw so we can keep an accurate account. Glazing will also be covered so that you can leave with finished pieces. $75 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first night of class. *Purchasing additional clay: The fee is an additional $75 to cover the firing, glazes and other consumables used during class. Please note: If you miss a class, you cannot make-up the class at another time. The ceramics schedule is very tight and these classes are usually full. Thank you for your understanding! *There will be class on 10/12.

Caribbean Cuisine: Ropa Vieja

Join Tony for this special one-night cooking workshop! Ropa vieja is a classic Caribbean dish of shredded beef stewed in a flavorful tomato-based sauce with peppers, onions, and spices, traditionally made with flank steak or chuck roast that is slow-cooked until tender. The name means "old clothes" in Spanish, referring to the shredded meat's appearance. It's typically served with white rice, black beans, and other vegetables. Special Note: The instructor will provide the shredded beef already cooked, while students will prepare the side dishes together in class. The instructor will go over how students can make the shredded beef at home. Please bring containers to take food home with you! *There is a $25 ingredients fee, payable to the instructor at class.

Stained Glass for Beginners

Beautiful objects are created in this class every semester by beginners. You can create a stained glass window or lampshade using the copper-foil technique. Learn acid etching and drilling. This is a fun and rewarding course. A complete list of materials will be discussed on the first night of class. The cost of materials is not included in the course fee and can vary depending on choice of glass and what your imagination will create. Note: You will also need to purchase your own tools, which can run between $45-$95. *No Class: 10/12, 1/18, 2/15. **Snow Date: 3/22.

Contemporary Line Dancing for Beginners

Learn all the basics of contemporary line dancing: basic steps and sequences (grapevines, shuffles, pivots, etc.), dances in 4/4 and 3/4 time, and basic rhythms with syncopations. All styles of music are used, including country-western, salsa, tango, hiphop, waltz. By the end of the class, you will have learned up to 10 line dances of various styles. A special Halloween-themed evening is included. Weekly emails will review each previous class and preview the next one, and provide links to demo videos. Handouts include descriptive lists of basic steps, rhythms, etc. Line dancing is great fun, as well as great body and mind exercise. No experience necessary, but practice at home between classes is recommended. *No Class: 10/12.
